The first economic summit inaugurating a new phase of Polish–Swedish cooperation was held in Stockholm. The event marked the implementation of a strategic agreement signed at the end of November 2024 by the Prime Ministers of Sweden and Poland, Ulf Kristersson and Donald Tusk. The document identified key areas of cooperation: innovation, clean energy, new technologies and digitalization, defense, and support for Ukraine.
The event was the first in a series of high-level meetings between representatives of both countries. It brought together government officials, business leaders, and experts from Poland, Sweden, and Ukraine, focusing on strengthening cooperation, developing investments, and supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction.
The Forum was opened by representatives of the highest authorities of both countries, including Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański and State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy Wojciech Wrochna, as well as Swedish representatives Benjamin Dousa, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, and Maja Lundbäck, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Business and Industry.
It is no coincidence that Polish–Swedish cooperation has been strengthening quarter by quarter. This is part of a broadly conducted economic diplomacy. Poland has much to offer: creativity, experience, innovative solutions, and outstanding specialists. These are precisely the factors that make us an attractive partner, and Poland remains one of the best places to invest in Europe,” emphasized Minister Andrzej Domański.
Several dozen Polish and Swedish entrepreneurs took part in the summit, including Adam Góral, President of Asseco Poland, and Marcus Wallenberg of SEB. The presence of Polish technology companies that co-create global IT solutions was met with strong recognition and sent a clear signal of the strength of Polish business in this key sector.
Discussions on the future of the economy strongly highlighted the role of Polish entrepreneurs and innovators. Poland, which in recent years has become a regional technology hub, was presented as a country that combines business boldness with a practical approach to digital transformation.
“Innovation does not need borders. It needs determination — and Poland has it. The Polish–Swedish Forum is proof that Polish entrepreneurship, resilience, and modernity are today our greatest assets. Today’s discussions show that Poland is ready not only to cooperate, but also to lead many processes in Europe,” said Andrzej Dycha, President of PAIH.
One of the most important moments of the event was a debate dedicated to support for Ukraine. Speakers included Svitlana Zalishchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Sweden, as well as representatives of the Polish administration. It was emphasized that Poland, as a key partner of Kyiv, plays a significant role in international efforts to rebuild infrastructure, the economy, and security.
“Supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction is not only about rebuilding companies after the war, but above all about bringing Western-style business models and anti-corruption standards to Ukraine,” noted Paweł Kowal, Chairman of the Council for Cooperation with Ukraine.
The Polish–Swedish Economic Forum was both a review of achievements and a preview of the further growth of Poland’s importance on the European economic map.
During the Forum, closed expert sessions were also held on energy transformation, sustainable infrastructure, digitalization, and the defense sector. The next Polish–Swedish Economic Summit will take place next year in Poland.
