Poland is implementing a series of major strategic investments aimed at strengthening transport connectivity, energy security, and long-term economic development. Several flagship projects have already been completed, while others remain under development.
Vistula Spit Canal and Inland Waterway to the Port of Elbląg
Construction of the Vistula Spit Canal and the first stage of the project entitled “Construction of a waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gdańsk” has been completed. This stage included:
Work is continuing under the second stage of the project, which includes reinforcement of the banks of the Elbląg River and the construction of a new over-100-metre-long swing bridge in Nowakowo, the longest of the three bridges planned as part of the overall investment.
Under the third stage, dredging works on the Vistula Lagoon were completed in May 2023.
Completion of all construction works and commissioning of the entire 25-kilometre-long waterway was scheduled for 2024. Once operational, the waterway will enable vessels with a draft of up to 4.5 metres, a length of up to 100 metres (or 180 metres for barge convoys), and a width of up to 20 metres to access the seaport in Elbląg.
Świnoujście Tunnel
The construction of the tunnel under the Świna River, providing a permanent transport connection between the islands of Uznam and Wolin in Świnoujście, has been completed. The tunnel was officially opened to traffic on 30 June 2023.
Baltic Pipe Gas Pipeline
The Baltic Pipe gas pipeline was launched on 1 October 2022, initially with partial capacity, and reached full capacity in early December 2022. The project plays a key role in diversifying gas supply sources for Poland, Denmark, and other countries in the Baltic Sea region and Central and Eastern Europe.
Baltic Pipe provides Poland with direct access to natural gas deposits located on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The new connection significantly enhances the stability, security, and competitiveness of the gas market in this part of Europe, symbolizing the end of Poland’s dependence on gas supplies from the East.
Central Transport Hub (CPK)
Work is continuing on the development of the Central Transport Hub (CPK), a flagship multimodal infrastructure project.
Preparations are underway for technical, economic, and environmental feasibility studies (STEŚ) for railway sections with a total length of approximately 1,500 km. In total, rail investments related to CPK will include nearly 2,000 km of new railway lines.
Investor variants have already been identified for:
Project Status
All projects remain ongoing, forming a core element of Poland’s long-term strategy to enhance infrastructure, improve connectivity, and strengthen national and regional security.

It serves as a key route for oil and gas supplies, hosts underwater power and fiber-optic cables, and is the site of large-scale offshore wind farms that will supply Poland’s energy system in the coming years. With the growing strategic importance of the Baltic Sea and the ongoing war in Ukraine, the scale of threats to critical offshore infrastructure is also increasing.
