As part of the National Railway Programme until 2030 (with a perspective until 2032), Poland is conducting a comprehensive study focused on the development directions of the national railway network, taking into account limitations at key railway nodes across the country.
The project aims to analyze and identify strategies for optimizing the capacity and efficiency of Poland’s railway network, particularly where bottlenecks occur in major junctions and interchanges. The findings will support planning for future investments, infrastructure upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
Project type: National Programme
Total project value: PLN 2,942,756.72
National co-financing: PLN 1,081,686.72
Location: Nationwide
Objectives and Scope
The analysis seeks to:
Evaluate current constraints in railway nodes and junctions.
Identify priority areas for expansion and modernization.
Support the strategic planning of investments under the National Railway Programme through 2030, with projections to 2032.
Ensure that network improvements enhance capacity, safety, and operational efficiency.
By assessing bottlenecks and infrastructure limitations, this project provides the foundation for long-term, data-driven investment decisions, helping to strengthen Poland’s railway system as a modern, reliable, and sustainable mode of transport.
Significance
The study is a key component of Poland’s efforts to:
Improve connectivity across regions.
Support economic growth through efficient freight and passenger transport.
Integrate railway investments with broader transport infrastructure initiatives under the National Railway Programme.
With nationwide coverage, the analysis will inform both policy makers and infrastructure planners, guiding the future expansion and modernization of Poland’s railway network.
