The Polski Fundusz Rozwoju (PFR) is co-financing the construction of a new intermodal terminal for CLIP Group in Zabrze. The investment, valued at approximately PLN 145 million, is being developed on post-industrial land previously occupied by the Makoszowy coal mine and JSW Koks facilities, with completion scheduled for mid-2026.
PFR is providing financing in the form of a loan of up to PLN 81.5 million to CLIP Terminals, while the remaining PLN 72.5 million comes from Poland’s National Recovery Plan (KPO). This blended financing model highlights the growing role of public institutions in supporting strategic infrastructure projects that strengthen the economy and logistics sector.
The new terminal will significantly enhance Poland’s intermodal transport capabilities by enabling efficient transfer of goods between rail and road without unloading cargo. Designed with a capacity of approximately 312,000 TEU annually, the facility will include four 750-meter transshipment tracks, two electrified zero-emission RTG cranes, and an advanced terminal management system.
Located in one of Poland’s most industrialized regions, the terminal will support both domestic and international freight flows while improving connectivity between southern Poland and major Baltic ports such as Gdańsk and Gdynia. This will strengthen Poland’s position within European transport corridors and increase its importance as a logistics hub for Central and Eastern Europe.
The investment also has a strong economic multiplier effect. It involves regional contractors and suppliers, boosting local businesses and increasing the share of domestic companies in the value chain. At the same time, expanding rail-based logistics contributes to lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduced road congestion, and improved transport safety.
For PFR, the project aligns with its broader strategy of supporting infrastructure development, economic resilience, and the competitiveness of Polish enterprises. The Zabrze terminal represents another step toward building a modern, efficient, and low-emission logistics system in Poland.
